WxUp.TV uses public weather, radar, climate-reference, astronomical, environmental, and geophysical resources where available. The site adds simplified interfaces, archive views, normalized read services, repeatable page presentations, and educational explanations, but it does not create official forecasts, watches, warnings, advisories, emergency instructions, health advice, agronomic prescriptions, or specialized celestial-navigation products.
Data categories used by the site
- Radar loop imagery: Public radar image resources are used for station-based base reflectivity loop viewing where available.
- Radar station metadata: Public station metadata may be used to show station names, identifiers, approximate locations, and related information.
- Forecast and alert links: Public weather endpoints may be used to surface context and links to official forecast, hourly forecast, graphical forecast, and alert resources.
- Rainfall archive: Public NWS HYD products are parsed into WxUp.TV rainfall-history rows for the rainfall board.
- Weather Roundup archive: Public NWS HRRIND Weather Roundup text is parsed into observation rows for map, timeline, and place-history pages.
- Agriculture and soil profiles: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information U.S. Climate Reference Network Hourly02 files provide quality-controlled reference observations including air temperature, precipitation, solar radiation, relative humidity, surface temperature, and soil temperature and moisture at 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 centimeters.
- Sky and natural-light context: The experimental Sky & Light Lab uses the U.S. Naval Observatory Astronomical Applications Department API for sunrise, sunset, civil twilight, Moon rise/set, lunar illumination and phases, and seasonal markers.
- Space Weather Pulse: NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center feeds provide planetary K-index, solar-wind plasma, interplanetary magnetic-field, and aurora-oval data.
- Air Quality Lens: Open-Meteo supplies modeled air-composition values derived from Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service forecasts. WxUp.TV attributes both Open-Meteo and CAMS on the product page.
- Surface Energy Ledger: NASA Prediction Of Worldwide Energy Resources provides daily solar-energy, clear-sky, temperature, and precipitation fields for the selected coordinate.
- Ground Motion Pulse: The U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Hazards Program GeoJSON feed provides rolling worldwide event summaries.
- Natural Event Tracker: NASA Earth Observatory Natural Event Tracker provides open event records and category metadata for wildfires, storms, volcanoes, floods, sea and lake ice, and other natural events.
- Nearest radar lookup: ZIP or coordinate lookups may be used to identify a likely nearby radar station for convenience.
- Weather icons: WxUp.TV uses locally bundled Meteocons weather icons for condition display where available, with text fallbacks when an icon is unavailable.
Page presentation and repeatability
WxUp.TV uses a shared Astryx-oriented visual system for page hierarchy, navigation, cards, data surfaces, responsive behavior, source callouts, and accessibility treatments. Structured HyperTemplates layouts and content contracts are being introduced for repeatable article, dashboard, collection, and station pages. Existing interactive pages retain their established data-loading scripts while the build applies the common presentation shell.
Cache and update behavior
WxUp.TV may cache radar, weather, climate-reference, astronomy, and Signals responses for performance and reliability. Cache timing varies by resource. Radar-related responses generally use a short cache window, Weather Roundup public reads are cached briefly while scheduled collection runs hourly, NOAA USCRN source files are cached for fifteen minutes, calculated USNO astronomy packets use a longer cache because a selected place and date do not change rapidly, and experimental Signals feeds generally use two-to-five-minute edge caches.
Known limitations
- Radar imagery can be delayed, stale, unavailable, or affected by upstream service conditions.
- Radar beams rise with distance, so faraway storms may be sampled well above the ground.
- Terrain, clutter, maintenance, and network issues can affect coverage and display quality.
- Alert and forecast context may not include every hazard affecting every visitor.
- Weather Roundup rows are parsed from text products and may contain missing values, abbreviated wind text, pressure trend suffixes, or remarks that require source context.
- Current Weather Roundup maps are reviewed static section maps; exact point anchors can be refined over future cartographic passes.
- USCRN stations are climate-reference sites, not field-specific agricultural sensors. Soil conditions can vary with texture, drainage, slope, cover, tillage, management, and distance from the station.
- USNO time-zone calculations use a standard offset plus an optional U.S. daylight-saving rule flag. The experiment does not yet resolve every worldwide civil time-zone rule automatically.
- Open-Meteo air-quality values are modeled grid estimates rather than measurements from a nearby regulatory monitor. They should not be used alone for medical or exposure decisions.
- NASA POWER daily fields can lag ordinary weather observations and are intended for analysis and context rather than current-warning decisions.
- USGS earthquake events and NASA EONET records are geophysical and natural-event context. Their presence on WxUp Signals does not make them weather forecasts or emergency alerts.
- Experimental Signals may be partially available when one upstream provider is delayed or unavailable. The page reports feed completeness rather than hiding the missing source.
- Derived durations, ratios, rankings, and display labels are WxUp.TV presentation helpers; raw upstream fields remain available for comparison.

For air-quality health decisions, consult local regulatory monitoring and public-health guidance. For agricultural decisions, use local extension guidance and direct field measurements.
